  • 4 thick slices, slightly stale baguette
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 150ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1+2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter

  • In a small bowl beat the eggs with the milk and 1tbsp sugar.
  • In a shallow dish place the baguette and pour the mixed milk over them. Leave them for about 30 minutes or overnight to absorb it in a fridge.
  • Heat a frying pan over a moderate heat and add the butter*.
  • Lay the baguette in the frying pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until the bases are golden brown, then flip over and cook for another 4-5 minutes.
  • Scatter the 2tbsp sugar over the baguette and turn them over to be coated the sugar. Repeat turning over gently until caramelised.
  • Serve immediately.

*If it is difficult to fry all baguette, divide the butter and sugar for caramelised as well.
